Angie(Hyunji) Kim
Angie Kim is a South Korean-born sculptor currently based in New York. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from Ewha Womans University in Seoul and recently graduated with her Master of Fine Arts (MFA) at Pratt Institute in 2024.
Angie's art delves deeply into the human body, skillfully exploring the coexistence of its natural beauty and the disquieting elements that can be unsettling. Her sculptures capture the fluid, organic contours of the human form, a subject she has been passionate about since high school. She is fascinated by the ever-changing shapes the human body assumes through movement and posture.
At the core of her work lies the concept of 'self' – the persona we project to the world and our physical embodiment. Angie uses the human body as a metaphor to courageously confront aspects of existence often avoided, raising awareness and gently prodding viewers to confront life's discomforts.
Her sculptures, crafted from materials like nylon, spray foam, and fabric, possess a striking beauty that challenges traditional norms, transforming ordinary materials into extraordinary forms. Angie's relentless passion for experimentation leads her to combine materials, reflecting human nature and embracing imperfections. Her journey as an artist demonstrates her dedication and curiosity, promising an innovative future in the world of sculpture.
